Not real...........SURELY???

I was sent this picture, and it is supposedly a very nasty beast that runs around the Iraq desert at night.

It bites, apparently.

Now I am fully aware of all the goings on with photos, and how they can be enhanced and messed with, and downright invented, so I want your wordly opinions on this bad boy.

I should say, and you may well observe yourself, this is two of them. One appears to be lunching on the other....which is nice.

Enough to put you off camping for life! Not that I'd go camping in Iraq at the moment.

If there's two of them then it seems that the creatures are some kind of large arachnid ("No shit, Sherlock", I hear you say). Personally, I'm inclined to think that if these things did exist then we'd all have heard about them by now.

Unless the use of depleted uranium ammunition in Iraq has cause a genetic mutation to occur? Perhaps I've been reading too much sci-fi?

There must be more than one there's just too many legs there, unless it's some sort of uber centipede with a limp

As Shytalk says it's (each one!)got 8 legs and so it would be arachnid if land based and so it's fake because the biggest spider around is nowhere near that big; probably a mock-up using Langostines or spider crabs or similar (remember the Brits are in the south on the gulf coast)

I tell you what Mags, one of my nastiest childhood bug memories was walking on a beach in Littlehampton, at about 6 on a summers evening, and looking down at my legs to see what looked like a pair of black tights, but was in fact sand flies!

I flipped my fucking wig! LOL!!!!

Hello Span,

Ok, I can have some faith in this, because my mind can't actually deal with the alternative if I'm honest!

Well Six, Span raises the point that the bniggest spider on earth is not that large, but if this is indeed a mock-up, I think it is beautifully done.

But God, who here cares to find out for real??????
